How to Promote without Sending Spam

by Steve Kaye

Here's how to promote your business in discussions without posting spam.

First, spam is an ad, announcement, or other self-serving news. People dislike spam because it has no value to them.

So, here's what to do.

Put your announcement into a context that either helps or involves others.

For example:

1) Rather than post an announcement stating that you're speaking at an event, post a request for ideas on how you can make your presentation more effective. Or, ask if anyone who has spoken at the same venue can offer ideas on what to expect. Or, ask for stories that support your message.

Note that you'll still gain publicity for your presentation. And you'll be contributing to ideas that help others.

2) Similarly, rather than promote your product or service with announcements, post a request for help identifying benefits that you can state in your next presentation. Or, post requests for ideas that work when speaking about your offering. And so on.

Our members joined Green Speakers to gain tips and leads that will help them become more effective when speaking on Green issues.

My hope is that we can make this discussion so dynamic and valuable that everyone checks it daily. Then we'll all contribute to making Green ideas more available to everyone.

Wish you the best of success,
